This is my first summer in Denver and I’m ready to make the most of it. Even though I’m working a full-time job that may prevent me from travelling during the week, I’m ready to make up for it on the weekends. Everyone says that this is the best season and there’s so much to do, so let’s get started.
1. Hike a 14er
This should be on the list of everyone in Colorado. There’s over 50 to choose from and even though I probably won’t hike all 14, I’d like to do at least two before the snow hits again.
2. Visit Blue Moon Brewery
Duh. It’s technically in Fort Collins but I’m still counting it in Denver for list purposes. The hour and a half drive is worth it when they give you tons of free samples. Plus, there’s a slide at the end! Your inner child can come out after you’ve had a few beers, there’s no better way to spend a rainy Saturday.
3. Go to a Rockies game
Already done but it was kind of cold and I went for a class. And I didn't really pay attention to the game. The Rockies are pretty awful but that’s okay when you can buy a beer and watch the sunset over downtown Denver while playing cornhole. Tickets are as low as $4 so why not?
4. Climb the Manitou Incline
Again, not in Denver specifically but Colorado Springs doesn’t count as a city when it’s less than an hour away. This hike is pretty much just stairs for about a mile and has you gain over 2,000 feet of elevation as you climb. Sounds like fun and some sore legs but a must do while the weather is great.
5. Spend the night at Jazz in the Park
Every Sunday, jazz bands set up in City Park downtown to play live sets. And there’s food trucks because nothing says summer or a good time like Denver Biscuit Co and jazz music.
6. Stay up all night in the mountains
Get out of Denver and watch the sun set over the mountains. While I’m at it, I might as well just stay all night and look at stars. No class or practice the next morning means I can, right?
7. Go to the farmer’s market
I really like fresh fruits and veggies and Colorado and Denver are chock full of great farmer’s markets during the summer. So Saturday’s in Cherry Creek and Sunday’s on Pearl Street sound quite appealing after spending the past few months living on not so great fruits and frozen vegetables.
I’m sure there’s more to do but these are probably the most important. So here’s to a great summer and hopefully the majority of these will get checked off!
