Along with many other fellow college girls and guys, I own a fur baby. Sophia is the sweet kitty that I call my child. I still remember the day I brought her home from the pet store and she has been by my side ever since! I know that I can speak for a lot of other people when I say that being a mom to a fur baby rocks! Here are five things that make parenthood awesome:
1. They look forward to your return home.
Unlike grumpy boyfriends or girlfriends, and maybe even roommates, your fur baby is ALWAYS excited to see you when you come back from class or a night out with friends. There is no better feeling than seeing their eyes light up with love, and tail wags of excitement (if, you know, they have a tail). The first person that greets me when I open the door is my four-legged child. No matter the type of day, their love for you is the same.
2. All. The. Snuggles.
Who needs "Netflix and Chill" when you have "Cats and Naps?" Or "Pooches and Snoozes?" I know my little one has a specific bedtime that she would like for me to in bed and curled up next to her. I know that personally, I love when Sophia lays in bed with me because I get to Snapchat and Instagram her snuggling with me. Cherish these precious moments with your babies, I know I do.
3. They know all of your secrets
And guess what? They don't gossip. They just listen! So go ahead and vent about how Chad from Sigma Alpha what-not totally texted your roommate and not you, your fur baby knows that you, and only you, are the best human in the entire world. I find myself talking to Sophia and asking her questions about her day probably more than I should, but who cares?
4. Adventures galore!
Sophia and I have had the best adventures together. Whether it's to McDonald's to fuel my sweet tea addiction (another article for another time) or to get her new treats and toys, we have fun. Whether it's a trip to Starbucks to indulge in a puppucino or heading to campus for a stroll, cherish these times as a family.
5. Fam(ily)
In apartments, life can feel a little weird but living with your furbaby gives a sense of home away from home. Sophia and I indulge in chicken and tuna together and she binge-watches "How to Get Away with Murder" and "Grey's Anatomy" with me. I couldn't ask for a better best friend to experience these years with.
All in all, if you are a fur parent like myself, you already know all of these mentioned advantages of owning a pet. Their unconditional love for us keeps our days bright and worth it at the end of the day!
Those who don't have an animal or are looking to expand I encourage you to adopt! Even though I didn't get Sophia from an animal shelter, there are plenty of four-legged friends out there waiting for some love!
