The Perfect Music For All 5 Stages Of Studying

Let's turn up the panic.

In this beautiful season of test, test and more test it’s important to have to have the right playlist for all the different stages of studying. Now, just from surveying some of my friends I’ve gathered that there are five stages of studying, each that cater a different music taste.

1. Disbelief

This is the part where you aren’t really ready to start studying. You know that you should but then you say “I have time, I’ll start studying on Sunday.” Even though you know you’re lying to yourself, you still need that one last rager with your friends before you sit down with your textbooks. Obviously, this is the party playlist.

In my opinion, the best party playlists include Britney Spears, The Killers, Walk the Moon, Glass Animals, Weezer, and Panic! At the Disco. It’s important to schedule your time to get wild before you sit down to get studious, and nothing is wilder than “Mr. Brightside.”

2. Procrastination

Yes, it continues! You take a deep breath after your wildness and sit down, get out all your books but you’re still not reading to start studying. Maybe you procrastinate with social media or Netflix, but if you’re like me then the procrastination stage is the perfect time to rediscover your middle school playlist.

This includes artist such as Hot Chelle Rae (yeah, remember them?), Fall Out Boy, Miley Cyrus, One Direction and country Taylor Swift. Let the good mood go on for as long as possible because you won’t be in one again for a while.

3. Panic

This is where you’ve finally realized that your test is in 30 hours and it’s go-time. The real study time, relaxing music comes on. Usually, your “discover weekly” on Spotify is good for this.

Other artists that are great study buddies are Catfish & the Bottlemen, Queen, Thomas Impala and Thomas Rhett.

4. Rage

Also known as “the wall”, when you’re so sick of studying you start banging your head against the wall. You’re so angry that your textbooks are even near you, the air in library is choking you but you can’t stop now!

The best way to really get this anger out of your system is to channel your emo phase with bands like My Chemical Romance, Nirvana, State Champs, Sleeping with Sirens and the Sex Pistols.

5. Acceptance

The time has come. You’re walking to your test. You did the best you could. You’re not entirely confident, but you’re trying to get hype to boost that confidence. This is where you break out the true jams. Your lifelong music loves like the Eagles, David Bowie, Joan Jett, Aerosmith, The Doors and AC/DC.

Now that you’ve sufficiently procrastinated (maybe) from your studying by reading this, let’s crack open the doors and turn up the panic playlist.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
