For those of you who are drowning in school to the point that you aren’t aware of the day, month or year, remember it is almost October! I like to call it, “Out with the Birks and in with the Uggs.” While this month brings an onslaught of pumpkin flavor, Halloween hype and truly (for all my midwestern gals) an entire month of pure happiness, it also means midterms.
Yikes. Honestly, who decided that an education system centered around testing should have another week of it during the second happiest time of the year? Anyway, I can assure you this playlist will turn your study time into party time.
1. "Spice Girl" - Aminé
You probably know Aminé from his hit song “Caroline," but this song is just as much of a jam. Soon enough this will be the biggest hit in fraternity houses across America.
2. "Plot Twist" - Marc E. Bassy
It is literally impossible not to dance to this song. You probably won’t learn any of the words besides “plot twist," but you’ll sing those two, hum the rest and act like you know them.
3. "Young Dumb and Broke" - Khalid
Sometimes you need a little boost of motivation to not be dumb and broke, which is what will happen if you don’t hit the books!
4. "Woodland Sketches Op. 51: No. 3: At an Old Trysting Place" - Edward Macdowell
Obviously, I had to throw in some classical piano for ya’ll. This music makes you remember ideas better, so you might want to listen to it over and over throughout the night. Macdowell’s melodies also make you want to close your eyes and imagine you’re floating on ginormous lily pads with flowers in your hair and the sun soaking into your skin.
5. "Blessings" - Chance the Rapper
Okay, the studying isn’t going too hot. Take a second, listen to this song and realize how #blest you are. It’s all going to be fine, boo.
6. "The Way I Loved You" - Taylor Swift
Alright, I know my girl T-Swifty is a little controversial at the moment, but I don’t think anyone can argue this song literally deserves a Nobel Peace Prize. You’re simply gonna have to slam the books down and dance on a table for four minutes and four seconds once this song comes on. I don’t make the rules.
7. "Let it Go" - James Bay
You have two options on how to listen to this song. One is to sing as loud as you possibly can, feel completely empowered, let go of all emotion and become a stronger, better version of yourself. Another is to bawl your eyes out and drown in the sorrow of all past relationships. Both have their benefits. Enjoy.
8. "Semi-Charmed Life" - Third Eye Blind
Where were you in the early 2000s if it wasn’t sitting in your room memorizing every word of this song? Blast this sucker and release all the teenage angst that never fully left.
9. "Fergalicious" - Fergie
Literally, there is no explanation or justification necessary for this one.
10. "If You Ever Wanna Be in Love" - James Bay
So, you’re about at the point in your study sesh when you’re crying because you’re going to fail and never get a job. Turn this song on and cry for a different reason. You’re also sad and alone!
If this playlist doesn’t get you a 4.0, I honestly don’t know what will. Happy studying, my friends.
