A Much Deserved Thank You to My Parents

Words cannot express my gratitude.

A Much Deserved Thank You to My Parents

You two mean the world to me, and hey without you, I wouldn’t even be here. It’s hard to know where to begin with a thank you, considering all of the amazing things you’ve done, but I think I’ll start with this:

Thank you for keeping me safe.

No matter what the circumstance, you have always done whatever you can to keep me safe and protected, even at the expense of your own comfort. You gave me a home, gave up your blanket for me when I was cold and even let me sleep in your bed as a child just because I was afraid of the dark. You are both the ultimate example of putting others before yourself.

Thank you for being a shoulder to cry on.

Every time I felt sad, got into a fight with my friends, or just felt down on myself, you both lifted me up and made me feel better instantly. You are the best pick-me-up.

Thank you for keeping me humble.

There has never been a time in my life where I have forgotten to be thankful for everything that I have and that is because of you guys. You taught me to not only express thankfulness on Thanksgiving, but to do so every day, and this has helped me grow so much as a person.

Thank you for making me smile.

You two make me laugh more than anyone I know, mainly because we are the same person and I have so much fun with you. From vacations to playing board games, it’s always the best time. Yeah, there are fights, but would it be normal if there wasn’t?

Thank you for supporting me.

Every big decision I have made in life you have supported and I cannot be more grateful. Changing my major was one of the biggest life changes I’ve experienced, but you just told me to do what makes me happy. You taught me that no matter how much money I make, it won't matter if I'm not enjoying it.

Thank you for giving the best advice.

Anytime I had trouble making decisions, you would be able to provide advice to get me through it. From stressing about school, to boy problems, you always knew exactly what to say.

Thank you for dealing with my craziness and my attitude.

Yeah I know, I’m a pain sometimes and I get snippy, but I never mean it. You know just how to bring me back to reality, and I am so happy that you do.

Thank you for loving me.

Thank you for caring, believing in me, supporting me, raising me and more. Everything you do is for my benefit, and you put me before yourselves. You are both completely selfless, and I can’t thank you enough.

This is only a small list of things that you do for me, and there is so much more, but I'd be writing for years if I mentioned everything. So, just know this:

I love you both, and thank you for being amazing parents.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
