10 Things That Suck That Happen When You Move

"Is this really happening?!"

Have you ever moved? Or lived through the moving process? If so, well, then you can relate to this article. Whether you’ve moved many times or not, here’s a walkthrough of 10 things that happen when you move.

1. You start thinking, "is this really happening?"

The first thing that went through my mind, was “wow, alright, this is actually happening, this isn’t going to be my house anymore”. I'm sure this has happened to many people; some take it as a bad thing, others good, and some indifferent.

2. You have A LOT of “garbage.”

When you live in a house for 12-13 years, you don’t realize how much you hoarded around your room--like the card you wrote in crayon for your mom's birthday in school, or the 10-year-old t-shirts you forgot about.

3. Your mom suddenly becomes the commander.

Weeks leading up to the move, you suddenly find your mom dictating everything that goes into every box, asking questions like "what you are going to take with you?" or "what is being thrown away?" You slowly find yourself with no control over anything going into your new house.

4. You naturally dislike the people buying your house.

They can be the nicest people ever, and you do not know one thing about them. But, they are taking your house from you, so naturally, you do not like them. In reality, though, it’s your parents' fault for putting the house on the market.

5. You replay every childhood moment and memory.

As the days leading up to your move approach, you suddenly find yourself replaying every childhood moment you had growing up.

6. You start to appreciate the town you lived in more than you ever had.

Constantly hearing people saying “can’t wait to get out of this town” and then you start thinking when you’re actually getting out, “crap...no, wait, I don’t want to leave”

7. The actual moving part sucks.

Packing, moving heavy objects, throwing things out, overall constant chaos--it is an overall terrible experience.

8. Looking for a new house also sucks.

Searching for the perfect new house to move into is super stressful, and it gets to a point where you see so many houses that they all start to look alike.

9. You have to pick your neighbors too…

Not only do you have to find the perfect house, but it’s also a necessity to find the perfect neighborhood to live in. Besides, you can always change your home, but you can't change your neighbors.

10. No furniture ever fits through the doors or can be carried up staircases.

This just leads to World War Three within the family between those who are too weak and others who are the genius mastermind planning how we're going to get mom's old rocking chair up the staircase because she just can't break it and throw it away. No big deal.

Although moving is a great opportunity for a change of scenery and a change in lifestyle, the process is long, gruesome and annoying. So, to anyone going through a move or anticipating a move…good luck!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
