7 Movie Characters You'd Love To Guest-Lecture At Your School, And The Classes They'd Teach

As I was walking home from class one day, I noticed Miami's announcements for a lecture series that was coming up, featuring none other than Ice-T. This made me wonder: If I was in charge of all these events, who would I have chosen? So, I turned to some of my favorite young adult movies and picked seven of my favorites and then imagined what they would teach me and my fellow RedHawks.

1. “More Than A Muggle” with Hermione Granger

Giphy

Hermione was a fighter for equal rights for all! If you really go deep down the rabbit hole, you'll realize that there is a lot about the Death Eaters that was similar to the Nazis. So it only seems natural that Hermione would bring open-mindedness and tolerance to Miami!

2. Matilda’s “An Introduction to Teleportation”

Giphy

She is hands down my favorite Roald Dahl character, and I think with her superior brain powers, a lecture from her would prove one of the most magical in Miami's history.

3. “Never Say Die and Other Codes of Honor” With all of the Goonies

Giphy

This was one of my favorite movies as a kid, but what I absolutely loved most was how strict the rules of a Goonie were and how they seemed to live by their own culture. All I know is, if Chuck or Mike were coming to campus, you can bet I'd want to be in the front row so I could be a Goonie too!

4. “What Brings Us Together Today” by Vizzini

Giphy

Buttercup certainly had her share of adventures, but I could totally imagine Vizzini as a traveling speaker. Although, most of his speech would probably revolve around how much of a genius he thinks he is, so maybe it wouldn't be the most educational. Inconceivable!

5. “How To Figure Out Who Your Dad Really Is” by Sophie Sheridan

Giphy

If Sophie didn't burst into song in the middle of her speech, I'd expect an immediate refund!

6. “Practical Magic and the Impracticality of Men” by Gillian and Sally Owens

Giphy

I would really be excited to hear about all the spells that these two witchy sisters could teach. And what's more, though they sure have bad taste in men, they DEFINITELY know how to get back at them!

7. “The Makings of a Successful Heist” with Debbie (and Danny because I'm still not convinced he's dead) Ocean

Giphy

Who better than the Ocean siblings to teach us how to find the art, steal the art, plant the art and frame anyone who they have previous beef with!

Who would you invite on campus if you had the choice? I think any of these seven would make for some really fun guest speakers! So all I have to say is, make it happen Miami!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
