It is almost the end of the semester. Stress levels are rising, grades are slipping, and everyone is anxiously awaiting summer break. For me, I want nothing more than to be back home sleeping all day without any responsibilities; but for now, I will stick to mac and cheese cups and all-nighters until finals week is over.
Before we can all go our separate ways and enjoy the much needed four-month vacation, we have to go through the move out process. Moving out is a tiring and long process. We all know the stages of move out, though. Naturally, "Parks & Recreation" can explain any situation. Here is what goes through my mind as I go through the move out process.
1. The initial thought process: Move out is at the end of April, and I have more than enough time.
I will pack a little each day and bring stuff home in an orderly manner. I am responsible, and I can do this.
2. There is less than a month left of school, and everything starts piling up.
When you realize that it is the middle of April, and you have done nothing to help your move out process.
3. The panic starts to set in.
There is so much to do, and so little time. Studying for finals, packing everything up, and trying to stay sane are the three most important things that are on your mind right now.
4. When you make a list of everything you need to pack, and notice that you have significantly more than what you started the year with.
There is no way I am going to get all of this done. I might as well give up now.
5. Where did all of this stuff come from? When did I buy this?
How does anyone expect me to fit a floor lamp and mini fridge in my small Honda Civic?
6. When you really wish the people that helped you during Welcome Week came back and took all of the stuff out of the room for you.
Oh how I miss those overly-energetic and sleep-deprived volunteers. I wish you would come back and help me take all of this back to my car while still being really excited.7. Okay, I need to change my attitude. I can do this.
If I can stay awake through my 9 AM class, I can move all my clothes out of the dorm.8. When you enlist your family and friends to help you out since you cannot possibly take care of this all on your own.
What better way to bond with your loved ones than to dismantle IKEA furniture together? It also makes for a great date. I highly recommend it.
9. You quickly realize how tired your body gets from lugging all the boxes from the dorm to the car.
Choosing a room on the fifth floor was all fun and games until you figured out that you are going to have to carry boxes down eight flights of stairs or fight people off for the elevator.
10. Lastly, when it is all over with, you will feel so relieved to have successfully gone through move out without dying or acquiring any serious injuries in the process.
Good luck with move out everyone. I hope it is not as painful as it normally is!
