Move-in day is a rollercoaster of moods.

Move in day is hectic and full of all sorts of different things. This may be your first time in your dorm, and only the second time being on campus. And you have to get all your necessities and beautiful extra knick-knacks all in order. Not to mention, you have to tell mom and dad goodbye and if you haven't already come to terms with having to live there for the next year, this is when it hits you.

1. The Drive

The heavily annoyed, slow gaze at your mom, dad, sister, or whoever is annoying you so badly. Whether your older brother is trying to be a backseat driver or your mom just can't manage to keep up with you on the Interstate, we can all relate to "the look". Which is most certainly followed by an eye roll or slow blink.

2. Unpacking

The volunteers unloading your stuff for you is super, duper nice; however, it does feel weird to just let everyone do stuff for you while you just follow along. And oh boy! It is shocking how they can unload your car ten times quicker than you and your parents could. You just sort of anxiously watch them take your stuff inside while trying to awkwardly say "thank you" over and over again.

3. Finally Settled

That happy/cozy feeling you get when your dorm is finally all decorated and just as picturesque as you imagined it to be. And you get to post that satisfying "you made it" sort of picture of you and your roomie posing in your dorm.

4. Awkward/Sad Goodbyes

For those of us who are not very emotional people, the goodbye is awkward. Sad because you'll miss them, but awkward because you don't cry and everyone in your family is crying a LOT. Although, some of us are just as emotional as our mamas will be. And it's a bittersweet moment whether you cry or not. Everyone gets a healthy dose of "I'll miss you" hugs.

5. The Wave of Exhaustion

Everyone has left and you and your roomie have finally sat down on your beds to just relax. And that's when your eyelids suddenly weigh 1000 lbs. Moving didn't seem like terribly hard work, but goodness do you feel tired. You have to seriously weigh your options of calling it an extremely early night or going to see that movie on the drill field. Socializing > Sleep ... Sleep > Socializing.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
