The Mountains Are Calling And I Must Go
Alex Todd

Recently, after coming back from my adventures in California, it got me thinking about how close I was to nature and how I was getting to experience God's handy-work day in and day out. How I didn't think I could grow to love something so much or crave to be back among the mountains and trees.

Then I had the thought: I want to be back among all the beautiful creation for the fact that I desire to be close to my creator. We as humans and children of God have a desire to grow closer to him and walk a path that is pleasing to him. We are created to crave that connection.

Recently, I have been infatuated with mountains. Okay, I say recently but going way back to high school I have always found my happiest moments were experienced there. From missions in Mexico to family vacations. I was experiencing God's creation and enjoying everything he has blessed me with all at the same time. To me, this sounded like a win-win.

Tonight at about 5 a.m., I had the thought if some of Jesus's most rockstar moments take place in the mountains. Ex: The Sermon on the Mount and The Great Commission. Psalm 121 literally in verse one and two of the NIV version it states "I lift my eyes to the mountains- where does my help come from? It comes from the Lord the maker of the heavens and the earth." Even diving deep into the Old Testament God Presented Moses the 10 Commandments on top of a mountain. Abraham and Isaac had to fully put their faith in Gods plan on top of a mountain.

So if some of Jesus's most notable moments, and biblical history all took place on top of a mountain I think there has to be some pretty significantly awesome reason as to why.

For me, God calls me to put the entirety of my trust into him. He calls me to walk with him and depend on him. God does not ask me to take on life's challenges all on my own. Just like He did not have Moses walk alone up Mount Sinai. God guided his path in times of trial and tribulation. God doesn't ask me to face my mountains alone. Instead, he guides me up the mount, he commissions me to love others wholeheartedly, spread his love and mercy, shout from the mountain tops how awesome he truly is.

"God did not give me a spirit of fear but a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline." 2 Timothy 1:7. So if I do not have a spirit that is made to be timid, why do I find it so hard to shout his good works? Why do I sink into my shell when he gives me the opportunity to be a light atop a dark mountain for his kingdom.

Sadly, folks, I am human just like all of you. I struggle day in and day out with what the Lord has called me to do. But I know full well that I am loved wholeheartedly by my creator. He gives me the strength to face the steep mountain of life ahead, but with a faith, as even as small a mustard seed it can move mountains big time!!

God calls us all to be great! But to be great we must depend on him to help make us great. So go out and find the faith to move mountains of your own today!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
