With a new year comes new opportunities to make changes in your life and begin accomplishing everything you have intended to complete. Hopefully, 2018 is a year that tops all of your previous years and that many new adventures bring with them lessons, joy, and achievements. Success comes in many different forms but a drive and a motivation to excel is what initiates this journey towards success.

The words of your family and friends or even your own determination to succeed in life can be enough to help inspire you to stay on track with your goals. Sometimes it is the words of strangers or people who know too well adversity that can keep you on your toes. Here are eight motivational quotes to keep you headstrong and inspired to stay motivated this new year.

1. “Success Does Not Consist In Never Making Mistakes, But In Never Making The Same One A Second Time.” – George Bernard Shaw

In other words, learn from any choices you make, be diligent, and work towards improving yourself no matter what comes your way. It's a given that mistakes will always be made, but what greater way to learn than by trial and error.

2. "How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world." – Anne Frank

Every moment of every day gives you the opportunity to be a better version of yourself and to help others. Not even a new year needs to be waited on to start a new path of kindness and determination towards your goals.

3. "Change your thoughts and you change your world." – Norman Vincent Peale

Changing your perspective can be enough to change your life. Embrace positivity, look past dwelling on past mistakes and express gratitude. You might just be surprised by how much more happy you are about life because of a single shift in perspective.

4. "Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve." –Napoleon Hill

This belief really comes down to your perspective. Nothing is impossible if you say it is impossible. Look at difficult obstacles as challenges and stick to your passions. It was once believed that we would never fly or reach the stars. Look at us now: we have had fellow and motivated people plant their feet on the moon and we have the opportunity to fly domestically and internationally. The "sky's the limit" is now just simply phrase rather than reality, but only if you truly believe that.

5. "Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star." – W. Clement Stone

You should not shy away from having big dreams but it is the small steps you take to achieve what you desire that will matter. Having a big goal can be the best motivator. Sometimes the steps you choose to take will not always lead to the expected outcome, but any progress, big or small, is worth appreciating.

6. "It does not matter how slowly you go, so long as you do not stop." – Confucius

The only judgment that matters when it comes to your life is your own. The best things in life sometimes take the longest to reach and it should not matter how fast or slow you go. You know what it is you have to do to get to where you want to be. Taking actions to get there is a work of improvement already, so keep going no matter.

7. "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover." – Mark Twain

Life is not meant to be lived sedentary behind a screen. An adventure should be craved because that is how you meet people, learn from others and learn from yourself. To take risks means to grow, so weigh your decisions before you make them but live life to the fullest. There is much beauty in our surroundings; take a moment or make it a lifestyle to explore cities, careers, nature, whatever you enjoy, and help gratitude, dreams, and creativity flourish.

8. "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." – Neale Donald Walsh

Of course, staying in bed is comfortable but that is not how Steve Jobs became an entrepreneur or how Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook. To live means to move, to get up and make each waking hour an hour filled with resilience and dedication to your craft.

Put on those running shoes, hit the weights, make a career change, start a business, tell someone I love you, cut your hair, etc! Get out there and do things that get your heart racing and makes you a little hesitant simply because you might have to deal with failure. You will always have your comfort zone to fall back on, so just have faith in your abilities and do something unfamiliar. Begin a life worth living and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
