5 Ways To Find Motivation When You Have Writer's Block

All of us have faced that moment when writing an article (perhaps for Odyssey) where you can't think of a single thing to write. Nothing is flowing, you're re-reading your sentences fifteen times each and changing them each time, and absolutely everything that moves provides a distraction to you so you don't have to continue putting your brain through agony trying to think of a topic. If you need help, you have come to the right place.

Current Events

  • This is a perfect topic idea because new things happen literally every single day. This could include anything from sports, to global news, to actresses and actors, to political news. Daily there is breaking news stories and scandals that come to light that are dying to be covered by an everyday person, so take the opportunity!

Current Events For You

  • I don't think there is anything easier to write about than yourself. You know you better than anyone else. You can write about what makes you happy, what makes you mad, your opinion on a current event in the world, your views on society, your favorite food to make, your favorite type of music for long road trips, and more. You can write about relationships, friendships, and family. The list goes on and on. Write about what you're passionate about and what sets your soul on fire.

School

It may seem like a pretty basic topic, but everyone can relate to it. There's always something to talk about with school, whether it be classes, where to hang out, how you entertain yourself, the hardships of high school, what you would change about it, what you're nervous about if you haven't gotten to college yet, how to pick a good school, transferring schools, and more. This topic encompasses a lot of possibilities as well, so dive in and find one you like.

Soul Searching

This one sort of goes off of the current events for you, but in a different way. This is heavier topics. Things that you have been through, things that bother you, things that you hold close to your heart, things that have hurt in the past. This is things like a bad break up, how you lost your best friend, how you got out of your depression. You can write about things you have always wanted to do but the reasons why you are too afraid to do them. Write about what has been bothering you the most recently. You can also take it a step further and write about what you're going to do about it.

Google

  • In the end, if none of this helped, Google is always a great place to go for topics. You can literally type in "What to write about when you have writer's block" and a list of topics will pop up immediately. There will be tons of articles like this one offering you options, so search until you find a topic that jumps out of you.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
