Thank You, Mom

Moms truly are blessings, so take some time to show your mom how much you treasure her.

Thank You, Mom
Kelsey Thomas

Oftentimes, moms aren't appreciated enough. They do so much for us, but do we say "thank you" enough? No, absolutely not. As Mother's Day approaches, take some time to show your mom how much you love her and appreciate her.

Though TV shows portray moms in a certain way, there are many types of moms out there. Your mom may be super involved in your life, or maybe she's not at all involved. Your mom may be very strict, or maybe she's laid back. Your mom may work, or maybe she's a stay-at-home mom. Your mom may drive a minivan and wear mom jeans, or maybe she drives a sporty car and not dress in typical mom fashion. Whatever type of mom she is, take a moment to tell her thank you for all she does.

She always puts your needs above hers.

Though my mom doesn't have to, she always makes sure that I have what I need before she even thinks about herself. Rarely does she treat herself, especially if she knows that my brother and I need something. Until I graduated high school, she would get up extra early each morning in order to have time to pack my lunch, because she knew I didn't like school lunch. Things like these are why I appreciate my mom.

She's there when you need a friend.

Whether it's because I got into it with my dad, or because I did badly on a test, she offers to go get ice cream, or go out to eat, or even just call and talk to me if I'm bored. She's the person I talk to about anything; I know she won't judge. She texts me "good morning love you" with cute emojis each morning and "goodnight love you" with more emojis each night to make sure I know she's thinking about me.

She does so much behind the scenes.

When I moved back home from school, she washed the two huge bags of laundry I brought home, so that I didn't have to. She cooks, feeds the dog and takes her out, cleans, and every other possible thing you could think of, all without complaining. Oftentimes when she gets offers of help, she says "Oh, no, sit down. I've got it!" We may not notice her doing these things, but we would notice if these things didn't get done.

She does so much for me and our family, and I know that she isn't the only mom out there that is this great. Moms go above and beyond what they have to do, and all of them should get the recognition that they deserve. Without these amazing women that support us, we wouldn't be the people we are today.

Whether your mom is the typical mom or is the farthest thing from it, take a moment to show your love and tell her thank you. So, thank you, Mom, for everything you do; I count my lucky stars every day that I get to call you my mom, I couldn't ask for a better role model and friend.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
