This movie is way more than meets the eye!
It's not a spoon fed story that requires no thinking. If you're like me, the first time I watched it I just didn't understand. I have watched it for the second time and I still have so many questions for the brilliant mind of Darren Aronofsky. The film speaks volumes, even if it is a little difficult to comprehend.
I'm not going to spoil it for you, so don't worry!
It can be looked at through a number of perspectives. Maybe through the eyes of the needy and never satisfied artist. From this standpoint, being loved by your fans is never enough. Even the love from family isn't enough to quench the ever-burning drive for stardom.
Could it be that Jennifer Lawerence is Mother Earth and the film is a representation of how much the people that live on this planet take from her? Or is it meant to be taken at face value and is about a couple struggling in their relationship? Will Mr. Aronofsky ever reveal his vision for this mind-blowing phenomenal film? We may never know, but it will definitely make its audience ponder its meaning.
This movie is told through the story of Jennifer Lawerence's character that is without a name, simply identified as 'Her'. Her husband is a struggling poet who never ceases to steal the spotlight; leaving Her standing in the background as his fans shed adoring love on his writing into the emptiness of his needy soul. Driven to be recognized for her talent, Jennifer Lawerence is determined to make her husband see her, but in a twist that I definitely didn't see coming, her need for reassurance backfires and her life is shattered in the final act of the film.
However, this is just my take on the film. It is left open to interpretation from the viewers. Most will say that it doesn't make sense to them but that's simply because we have all become used to having the story fed to us line by line.
Do yourself a favor and check this fascinating film out!
