5 Summer 2016 Trends

While there are plenty of things about summer that will never go out of style, like sunscreen and warm temperatures, there are several more things that come and go year to year. The following are my favorite trends of summer 2016.

1. One piece swimsuits

Love them or hate them, the KarJenners are huge trendsetters this generation. If they can rock a one-piece swimsuit, everyone else will want to. Personally, I'm just glad they've become cute and trendy so that I can eat all of the Oreo's I want without having to worry about getting that "perfect bikini bod." Another plus? Way less skin to get sunburned! As a fair-skinned girl, I am always looking for a reason to wear less sticky sunscreen.

2. Wine Slushies

Who doesn't love a good frozen drink by the pool? Margaritas and Pina Coladas have always been a very popular summertime drink, but a new kind of frozen specialty is taking summer 2016 by storm: wine slushies. They come in a massive variety such as Sangria Granita, Red Wine Slush, Triple Berry Wine Sushie, Pinot Slush and White Wine Granita. Recipes can be found at BuzzFeed.

3. Fun Floats

While this trend has continued into this summer from the previous summer, its cuteness has not decreased. Some other popular floats besides the swan are unicorns, donuts and pizza slices. Laying out can get boring and photo ops can be hard, but these fun floats provide life to fix both of these summer problems!

4. Strappy Gladiator Sandals

Sandals in the summer are a given (it's way too hot for sweaty socks). However, I'm always looking for a way to change it up from the basic flip flop, and these trendy tie sandals are the perfect way to do that. They come in a variety of colors, some have a heel (perfect for me, a relatively short girl), and can tie at the ankle or higher depending on preference. They can be found at most boutiques and shoe stores!

5. "Orange is the New Black" Season Four

While highly controversial and not suitable for young eyes, this show is incredible at getting its audience in the feels. Season Four was released on June 17, and included 13 hour-long episodes. Many have watched it and expressed their feelings about it on many social media platforms, solidifying it as a widespread trend.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
