10 Things I Will Include In My Daily Routine For A Productive Semester

I do well in school overall (knock on wood), although, there's always room for improvement. This semester, I want to make some changes. Personally, I feel better when I have a routine, do the same things at the same time every day. So, a routine makes me feel good, and when you feel good, you do good. Therefore, here's a list of 10 things I want to include in my daily routine for this semester.

1. Wake up early even if I don't have class until later in the day.Although I naturally sleep in late, I feel better when I wake up earlier.

2. Have a morning routine. I believe that to have a good day, it's important to start the day off on a good note, which can happen if I have a routine. This includes making my bed, washing my face, rinsing out my coffee cup, taking my pills, and do my hair/makeup.

3. Use my planner in every class. Using a planner makes me feel much more organized and know what I have to do and by when. Although I am a typical planner user, sometimes it's easy to say that I'll remember to do something, but for complete organization, I should write it down anyways.

4. Go to the library more. I have a really bad habit of doing homework in my bed for some reason (Is that weird?), and many psychologists say being in your bed for anything except sex and sleep is terrible for you mentally.

5. Get off social media and read more. When I was a kid, I would read for leisure all the time. Now, with a phone, it's easy to want to read memes more, but reading books has so many benefits opposed to reading Twitter.

6. Drink more water. This seems like something everyone (including myself) is always trying to improve on, so I thought I'd list it.

7. Having specific days/times to call family members. Knowing the next time you'll talk to someone helps organize your thoughts mentally of what you have to tell them rather than an impromptu call.

8. Spend less money, and when I do spend money, track it. This will help me feel financially self-aware and know what I can/cannot do certain days.

9. Focus on the positives at the end of the day.Humans don't live that long, it's important to realize that and be lucky for each day, even if some had more negatives than positives.

10. Have a night routine. Just like my morning routine, this will be just as important to help me feel good. It includes showering, taking my rings/jewelry off, taking my contacts out, getting my pills ready for the morning, plugging all my electronics in so they charge (phone and computer), putting lotion on, and having something to "wind down" (I.e. watch one episode of a show).

Everyone is different, but here are 10 things I think will aid me in having a productive semester, and overall life. Now, let's see if me writing it out will help me actually put it into existence!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
