We can all relate to it in one way or another.

What is something that you relate to? Could be a novel, song or movie? We as people can find, or in some cases, will be hit hard with something that we can relate to. Some would say that I have a problem with watching Monsters University; I just respond. It’s my favorite and can’t help it. We all have those types of movies that if it’s on, you watch it. Let me list just a few reasons why I think we all can relate to Monsters University and why it should get more credit.

1. Mike’s dream of becoming a Scarer

From the very beginning of the movie, you see where Mike's dream and goals begin. What’s so great about the beginning is that the guy he looks up to gives him his own hat and even encourages Mike to become a Scarer. This is relatable to me, and I hope others, because to have someone tell you that they believe in you, that you can do anything you set your mind to, gives you that boost of motivation and determination to not quit on your dreams.

2. Hard work

Though Mike was not born with the natural gifts like everyone else in the program, he made it. He got accepted to the college and into the program. You see throughout the first semester that his hard work paid off with good grades and proving everyone else around him wrong, that he could make his dream and goal come true, and nothing was going to stop him. We live in a time where it feels like everybody is a crab where if you have a bucket full of crabs they will pull other crabs down from trying to escape the bucket, I call these people crabs. Because they may not be happy with their life or never did what they wanted and they don’t believe anyone else deserves to make their dreams come true. We can all relate to Mike where sometimes, we have to prove others wrong with hard work and not letting others get us down.

3. Different paths (Quick spoiler alert if you haven’t seen it.)

Though Mike ends up getting kicked out of the university, he still fulfills his dream. Though it may not be a Scarer, he became something better: a teacher/coach. He ended up working where he always dreamed of working. This is relatable because this is the essence of life. This happens every day: we think and strive for one thing, but life has a better plan for us. We try so hard at times to force what we think is best, but when life steps in and we are open to letting life take us by the hand and lead us for a bit, we will find ourselves in a better place.

These are just a few reasons why I can’t help but sit and watch Monsters University every time I see it on. Not only do I enjoy but I see these aspects of not only my life, but life in general, and I enjoy it. Sometimes, it even gives me a boost in motivation. whether I have finals coming up or a paper/project is do or I just am simply at that point in the semester where I am burnt out, watching it gives me motivation to finish strong.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
