School is starting again! Even though that means being reunited with friends and having the chance to meet new ones, that also means an incoming bill for your private school tuition. We don't all get help from our parents, and finances can be a huge burden on many of us. Here are some ideas that have worked for me when it came to saving money as school comes back around.

1. Cook!

It may seem like it costs to buy food more when you go down to the grocery store and spend $50 on food versus $8 on a meal at Taco Bell. But, let's say you're spending $8 on three meals a day every day for a whole week. That adds up to much more than just $50 you could've spent at Trader Joe's. So just try to look up a recipe or two before settling for the convenience of fast food once again.

2. Use those student discounts

A lot of difference retail shops offer discounts if you show a valid student I.D.! If you're not sure which places offer it, feel free to just ask.

3. Don't buy textbooks right away

Yes, sometimes you do have to buy the book, but not always! Most schools allow you to rent them out from the library, and most you can rent on amazon for very cheap. It's possible you may not even need to use it at all so don't buy your books right away.

4. Make a budget

It can be easy to go off track on spending when you aren't keeping track. Try to set yourself a budget and stick to it! It's easier to plan, but harder to stick to it.

5. Get rid of those subscriptions

The subscription services like beauty boxes and movie discounts can seem like a good deal at the time, but if you're not really using them, don't waste your money! They take money without you even realizing it and it can add up over time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
