Mom, You’re My Compass

Mom, I want to first off start by saying thank you. You do everything for Nicholas and me without hesitation or even thinking twice about it.

You’re my best friend, you’re the person I tell everything to without even thinking about it. You’re the first person I call when I get a good grade on a test, the first person I call when I have boy issues and just need someone to listen to me cry, and the first person I call as soon as I get out of class because I just want to hear your voice.

I’m so grateful I only go to school two hours away and I get to see you as much as I do, because I don’t actually know what I would do if I lived any further. Thank god for the 21st century and FaceTime because I think I would lose my mind. Our relationship means so much to me because I know you’ll always be there for me and I always have someone to be my biggest fan.

Thank you for letting me complain about something that was such a big deal and it turned out being nothing. Thank you for always being the best role model a girl could ask for. Thank you for the morning text I receive every day telling me to “have a good day, call me when you get out of class. I love you.”

I look forward to that text every morning. And most importantly, thank you for being my best friend, and my go-to person in everything I do. I cannot put into words how much I appreciate our relationship and all you do for me.

My mom and I have a saying that we are each other’s compasses because no matter where we are in the world we’ll always be with each other. So mom, thank you for being my compass and I know that wherever you are, you’re always with me. I love you, mom.

Love always,

Your best girl

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
