Mom, These Are The Thank You's I Need You To Hear

Mom,

I know we haven't the best relationship the past 18 years, but moving eight hours away is tough for the both of us, believe it or not. I honestly owe you the world, but that would be too long to write.

Thank you for never giving up on me...

I know we always bicker, but I can't thank you enough for never giving up on me. There are too many parents who just give up on their stubborn kids. But you haven't and I can not express how much that means to me.

Thank you for being one of the hardest working women in my life...

The countless hours you spend trying to please everyone in the work and social environment is truly inspiring. I know people may not appreciate all you do for them but I sure do. Seeing you work hard to achieve your goals is once again truly inspiring.

Thank you for being the strongest woman I know...

I've witnessed you go through some really tough times and to see how you constantly "brush it off" to protect us is amazing. And when you have those tough days where nothings going right, I'll always be there to put a smile on your face.

Thank you for all the laughs...

Sometimes you truly are funny and other times, you need some work, but there isn't a time where we aren't laughing about something you did or said.

Thank you for being my best friend...

Sure, I have friends my age but there is no one in this world that I talk to more in 24 hours than you. You are the first person I call when anything happens, and we are constantly texting about something.

Thank you for being having open ears...

I complain a lot, but you are always the one I go to do the majority of my complaining to. Sometimes I want to rant, other times I want you to express your opinion. No matter what it is I will value this forever.

Thank you for being my number one fan...

I always thought that I was my number one fan, but boy was I wrong. No one has supported me more than you have. No matter what I'm doing I can always guarantee that you will be right there watching me either fail or succeed. (also thank you for always making me your profile picture!)

Thank you for letting me go...

I know me moving eight hours away is tough for the both of us, but I also know that our relationship has flourished even more since then. As much as I wish you would just move down here, I know that you're only a phone call away.

And most importantly Mom, thank you for being you.

You are MY rock.

I love you Mom, but can you text me back now?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
