If you think the holidays are stressful, imagine how your mom feels. Moms have so much to do during these months: plan, clean, shop, wrap... the list goes on and on. The best gift you can give your mom this holiday season is a helping hand. This is something every mom is sure to appreciate. Here are some ways to make this season easier on your mama.
1. Help with shopping.
For some reason, moms think they have to do all of the shopping for everyone on their own. This year, make a list of good suggestions for certain people, and assist her in her search. You could even get in your pajamas and browse Amazon together instead of having to run all over town. She'll love the second opinion.
2. Do some chores around the house.
Another big bummer of the holiday season is having to clean for company and do the dishes after big family meals. Make sure to offer to help clean when you have more family coming to town. Also, offer to do the dishes one night or two to lighten the load on your mom.
3. Gift wrap for her.
She will already be exhausted from shopping for everyone, so offering to wrap the gifts will relieve a lot of her stress. If she insists on helping you, blast some holiday tunes, put a yule log on the TV, and heat up some hot cocoa. You can make a nice mom date out of the experience to take it from a stressful task to a fun tradition.
4. Be her decorator.
Decorating can either be fun or a hefty task during the holidays. Help mom hang up the lights, put up and take down the tree, and place all the festive decorations all over the house. This can turn a task that can take a few days into one that only takes a few hours.
5. Help her cook and bake.
One of the biggest burdens of the holidays is having to constantly cook and bake for your entire family. Get in the kitchen and give mom and dad a hand this year. Offer to take over the desserts or one of the more tedious dishes. It will help out a lot, and you may even learn a great recipe or two.
6. Entertain your guests.
While your mom is busy cooking, cleaning, and worrying that everything will go wrong at your holiday party or dinner, make sure to keep your guests or family entertained so she won't feel obligated to. She's busy enough; the last thing she wants to do is make small talk for hours.
7. Tell her how much you appreciate her.
Being a mom can sometimes mean giving more than you receive. The best way to help your mom this season is by reassuring her of how much what she does means to you. She deserves all the gratitude in the world, and when you let her know that, it's all worth it for her in the end.
Have a happy holiday season, and make sure to give your parents and hug and a kiss this year.
