This Mother's Day, I want to take a minute to thank my mom for all that she does for me. Even though I say thank you when she cooks dinner and gets me Christmas and birthday gifts, I feel like I don't verbally say thank you enough to the woman who does literally everything for me.

1. Thank you for taking care of me when I get sick

2. Thank you for teaching me the best life lessons

3. Thank you for doing my laundry

4. Thank you for cooking every night

5. Thank you for always listening

6. Thank you for being the best role model

7. Thank you for slipping me some cash from time to time

8. Thank you for sending me to the best schools

9. Thank you for the advice and honesty whenever I needed to hear it

10. Thank you for being a five-star chauffeur

11. Thank you for standing outside the dressing room and telling me what's a no-go

12. Thank you for your endless support

13. Thank you for your selflessness and kindness

14. Thank you for showing me how to act with this selflessness and kindness

15. Thank you for sitting through long sports games and band concerts

16. Thank you for answering my endless questions

17. Thank you for always being available to talk to me on the phone

18. Thank you for your sacrifices and making us priorities in everything you do

19. Thank you for not staying mad at me, even though you pretend to be mad for the whole day

20. Thank you for taking us on vacations, road trips, to amusement parks and more

21. Thank you for being my No. 1 fan even when I don’t win

22. Thank you for introducing me to your favorite TV shows

23. Thank you for the countless memories we’ve shared

24. Thank you for being my best friend

25. Thank you for everything because I wouldn’t be who I am today without you

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines.
