Last week my mom flew into Charleston from Philly to visit me for my 19th birthday. We spent a great weekend together walking around The Battery, shopping, chatting and eating. The night before she left, we went to Jeni's ice cream: an all-natural ice cream shop downtown with flavors ranging from Wildberry Lavender to Biscuits and Peach Jam. A homeless boy was sitting outside of the ice cream shop, and even after an hour of sitting and chatting and eating ice cream, she still remembered his face desperate for some spare change or food. So my mom bought the boy four scoops of ice cream, and he took the bowl, his hands shaking, and let out a huge "thank you!" She even looked for him the next morning so she could buy him a breakfast sandwich, but he wasn't anywhere to be found.
So I would like to thank you, Mom. Thanks for these small but extremely kind actions that you do every day. You inspire me to give to others every single day!
