Women Who Disagree With Feminism Are The Ones Who Need It Most

"If feminism wasn't powerful, if feminism wasn't influential, people wouldn't spend so much time putting it down." -Jessica Valenti

Recently, modern-day feminism has been a topic of discussion and controversy.

Some women are turning their backs on the idea of feminism because it is now viewed as “mainstream” or “what the hipsters are doing."

Let us remember what it means to be a feminist, hopefully getting these women back on the mainstream bandwagon that is actually benefiting lives in a huge way.

After all, things become mainstream for a reason…

Being a feminist is actually a very personal decision.

All who have joined the movement joined for reasons of their own. Feminist do not have one goal in mind; we have an abundance of ideas and opinions. So, for someone to say “I don’t agree with feminism,” they are saying they don’t agree with the thousands of differing ideas and opinions we have.

Is it even possible to disagree with that many ideas and opinions?

If so, I think the problem here is your close-mindedness, not modern-day feminism.

Feminism isn’t just a political movement.

It is an overdue social change; it is a personal journey; it is a badass band of women. We are all wanting the same end goal: for women to receive equal treatment politically, economically and socially. This desire is not something to be ashamed of, we deserve the recognition that we have yet to receive.

The girls who don’t agree with feminism are the ones that need it the most.

If you don’t feel like the female population deserves equality, then you have been taught wrong. That is the problem here: girls have been programmed to think that we can’t do what a man does as well as him.

We have been programmed to think that we have a set place in society and we would be crazy to try and change that. We have been programmed to view ourselves as less than.

Worst of all, we have been programmed to accept all of these facts as normal.

Now is not a time for us to focus on and dissect modern-day feminism.

Now is a time to realize our worth and fight for it. Feminism isn’t the problem here.

I want to be a part of something that changes our lives and the lives of women to come. I want to help in the movement that is going to make our daughters and granddaughters lives easier. I crave the things feminist everywhere are fighting for because I know that we deserve it. It’s time to stop questioning the motives of feminist and start questioning whether or not we are treated fairly.

Once you have found the answer to that question then we can talk about whether or not modern-day feminism is the problem.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
