I grew up in a house where everything my family and I did was together. We would go to the grocery store together, we would go to the mall together, we would watch television together. We were always together. When we were younger, My sister and I would love to watch movies with my parents, but everything was rated G, so I can truthfully say that I have watched every Disney movie at least twenty times if not more. This being said, choosing a movie that changed my life is difficult because it would have to be a Disney movie, but all of them essentially taught me the same lesson of following your dream or that one can be whatever they want to be.
However, there was one that taught me the lesson in such a way that it appealed to me: Moana. Yes, this is one of the newer movies that Disney has made, but it is truly one that changed my life. This movie changed my life because it talks about how fear holds a person back and how one needs to follow their voice within. These two characteristics are ones that I need to work on because I very much tend to apologize for everything due to my fear of harming others. In addition, I need to learn how to follow my voice within, since truthfully, it tells me not to apologize, but I still do.
Moana goes on her voyage even though her parents tell her not to. Even though, she knows it is dangerous she goes. She goes because she believes in herself and because she is willing to do anything for her people. Moana shows us that it is okay to help others because the prize at the end is the happiness of others. That happiness that is seen is the best part of helping others. By her portraying this, Moana truly showed me that sometimes in order to be the change you want to see in the world, you have to go against some wishes. I can only wish to be adventurous like her, but I can hope that I could create change like her anywhere in the world.
Moana taught me that it is okay to fail and take help from others instead of doing everything by yourself. She teaches this through her adventure with Maui because he taught her a great deal only because she was willing to learn. Through this, Moana showed me that in order to succeed one truly has to fail first and if they do not then it is not likely that they will achieve their goal.
These few little lessons are why Moana is literally played all the time in our house. It is one of those movies where my mom ends up saying, "Sometimes you need to follow your heart instead of what others say because even though everyone is going left, by going right you could discover something amazing". Therefore, Moana is the movie that changed my life.
