Remember that guy who campaigned to get "corrupt career politicians" out of office? That "outsider" everyone so desperately wanted, with a Navy SEAL background? That Republican governor to create a clean red sweep across the state of Missouri?
Yeah, it only took approximately 17 months for Eric Greitens to resign from the position of governor. It seems that the political outsider wasn't as squeaky clean himself as he liked to pretend.
His resignation came amidst numerous investigations, which include sexual misconduct and misusing a veterans' charity donor list for his campaign. This resignation becomes effective as of Friday, June 1.
Greitens claimed to be a family man corruption-free political outsider, as was the basis of his campaign, and it took less than two years for all of his truths to come out and ruin any shot of presidency he probably could've had if he just followed the law.
Throughout the course of all of these allegations, charges, and stories, the reputation of the state of Missouri has taken a hit on a national level. Politicians, celebrities, and citizens from all over the country were shocked and outraged that a man like Greitens could and would continue to hold office.
Other politicians in the state are applauding Greitens' decision to resign, saying he's putting the state of Missouri before himself. But that's what his whole job was: putting the state first. Not having affairs, not committing felonies, not being the same trash politician that he based his entire campaign on fighting.
With his resignation, hopefully, Missouri can improve in the nation's eye. With Mike Parson taking over Greitens' office, we'll still keep our fingers crossed. Who knows. All we know is that, for the time being, Missouri is better off without Greitens in office.
