While many of us complain about many aspects of living on campus, I definitely miss the shoddy amenities after a little more than a week of being home.
The wifi may have been awful at it's height but the internet here at home is even worse for me. I can't even play Overwatch online with my friends because the internet can't support it. At least at Stevenson, I could plug in an ethernet cable and be on my way. You don't realize what you have until its gone, I suppose.
I'm already missing the ability to just walk a few hundred feet to visit my friends. Even though I already knew that they all hail from different cities and states, not having them readily available to hang out at all hours of the day is quite the bummer. The group chats are fading into the release of the occasional meme instead of being a wildfire of conversation 24/7 until you have to mute it. Stevenson was our homing beacon that brought us all together.
The food on campus was considered horrible and made many a student sick to their stomachs, myself included, but I definitely miss having already prepared food ready for me to just walk up a swipe for. All I know how to make is toast and eggs over medium. Where is my labretti!?
The food near campus was so easy to get to when I got tired of being sick from Rockland. And the variety was bomb! Pizza from Pie Five. Subs from Subway. Sushi from Edomae. Burgers from Five Guys. Pancakes from iHop. So. Many. Options! Here at home, the closest "quick" food is a half mile away. The bottom of the hill was lit!
Most of all, I miss being able to just head out at night and stroll across campus. I loved listening to the crickets, feeling the night breeze, and looking up at the stars as I lay in the grass. Here at home it isn't safe for me to be out and about at night. I've got a cement yard and so much light pollution that I'm lucky to see the moon. It was always so quiet on campus but now I have the loud sounds of the city to lull me into sleep.
Sigh...
I'm ready to go back to Stevenson!
