Am I The Only One Who Misses Playing Sports In High School?

You know you miss it.

In high school, I played on varsity basketball all four years and played football my senior year.

Going to a small, Christian private school, it was kind of a guarantee that you were going to make the teams. Unless you were just awful, then you made it. Some people say that they don't miss high school at all and I agree with that, high school wasn't something I would do all over again. But, the one thing about high school I would love to do all over again is the sports.

Like I said before, I went to a small private school. I actually went to two private schools when I was in high school. The classes were alright, the kids were hit and miss on the scale of awkwardness and being able to annoy me. But, sports is where I excelled and so did many others. I started all four years of basketball and when you go to a small school, you are actually somewhat of a celebrity.

The teachers would say, "Great game last night, Julius." Or some students would say, "Man, you played great last night." And I know plenty of you reading this, loved to be popular. I can sit here and say that being popular wasn't important to me, but I would be lying.

I didn't want to the be king of the school, but being recognized by a 1st grader who saw me play was kind of a highlight to me. I know that seems corny, but come on, we all like to be celebrities in some form or fashion.

I also miss high school sports because it helped me to monitor my health and weight. I am pretty sure that some may not struggle with trying to be healthy, but I am lazy sometimes (actually ALL the time). So, having to go to practice and doing the dreaded suicide lines, helped to monitor my health. Now, I have to actually go and run and hit the gym voluntarily. That is not an easy thing people.

I know some readers are thinking that there's no way I would go back to high school just for sports. Well, why not!?! I have always wanted to play in an alumni game, but I am sure my high school will never let that happen. It would be fun to play against some of the current students and hopefully dominate. There is no guarantee that my current condition is in dominating form though. And if I could just go and play high school basketball without actually attending high school all over again, then sign me up (not really).

I wouldn't say that high school was an awkward time for me. Mainly because I never wanted to be there. But, there are times when I miss the other parts of high school. I don't and will never miss the classes, but I do miss some teachers and some of my classmates.

That still isn't enough for me to go back though. High school sports were just special for me and I miss them a lot. I miss them even more with every time I get up and feel like blah. People miss those times of feeling on top in some area. While some have been able to continue their athletic careers in college. I was not so fortunate, but that's alright because I still have fond memories of my high school days.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
