15 Things You Miss About Living On A College Campus During Summer

We patiently wait for dead week and finals to end for what feels like forever, craving summer. We complain about the dorms, the classes, the stress, the dining hall food, missing our dogs. We can't wait to be home, in another city for an internship, traveling, really anywhere that isn't campus. Once we finish those exams and finally make it to the end of the spring semester, we realize something: we don't want to leave. Then, we spend 3 months patiently waiting for summer to be over so we can go back to campus. From dorms and dining halls to friends and food, there are so many things about being with tens of thousands of students on a college campus. Here are just 15:

Living no more than a 5-minute walk from your best friends

@universityofky

"Be there in 5!"

Being able to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner with your friends at the dining hall

The food ... not missed nearly as much.

Being with friends for an entire year

sorority sisters

Especially when they live far away from your hometown.

Going to all the local spots near campus

Local Taco or The Press, anyone??

Living with friends

college roommate

The only good thing about the dorm life.

Library study dates

Maybe not the studying part …

The late-night food runs

@cookout

2 a.m.? 3 a.m.? Who knows?

Walking EVERYWHERE

Much of what is in your daily routine on a college campus is within walking distance ... at home, not so much.

Constantly being busy

studying

Unless you are taking summer courses, being busy in the summer just isn't the same as being busy during the school year on a college campus.

Always meeting new people

It feels like you meet a new person every week during the school year, that's how many students are on campus.

Not having to plan and coordinate around a million summer obligations to be with all of your friends

Living hours away from each other makes it way more difficult to meet up in the summer.

The hysteria from all-nighters at the lib

Everything is funnier at 2 in the morning.

Football games

tailgating

Being academically productive

Aside from summer classes, internships, and jobs during the summer, you may find yourself missing getting things done.

Having all of your friends' clothes to choose from instead of just whatever is in your closet at home

football game

Questions like "Does anyone have a navy dress I can wear tomorrow?" can't be immediately resolved.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
