Lifting weights is something that girls shouldn't be afraid of! It builds muscle, makes you stronger, and gets you feeling confident. However, there are lots of misconceptions that keep girls from working out.

1. You'll get too bulky and look 'manly'

The most common fear women have is that if they start lifting weights, they'll end up with a physique that's too muscular and look too 'manly'. However, the women that look like this usually dedicate lots of time to achieve this, with strict dieting, supplements, and discipline. It's unlikely that you will accidentally end up too bulky, and your muscle will grow slowly over time.

2. Guys and girls can't do the same workouts

Why wouldn't we be able to? We're all humans and we all have the same muscles. The only difference is that girls might be at a different weight, but there is nothing stopping girls from not doing the same workouts as guys.

3. Cardio is the best way to lose weight

If you've ever run on a treadmill before, you'll know that the 'calories burned' display takes a while to go up. This is because it's a lot harder to burn your calories off. Calories are a unit of energy, and when that energy is not used, it's turned into fat. So the best way to lose weight is to limit the number of calories you intake, rather than attempting to burn it off afterward. So if your main goal is to lose weight, consider your calories!

4. People will judge you at the gym

It can be nerve-racking walking into a gym, being unsure of what to do and feeling like everyone is staring. But this is very unlikely to happen! Most people are minding their own business and worrying about themselves. So don't sweat it (or do sweat -- if you're at the gym)! Focus on your own workout and don't worry about anyone else.

5. You'll gain weight, not lose it

Alright, this one might be true, but in a good way! If you're lifting weights and eating a balanced diet, you're probably going to be gaining weight from building muscle mass while reducing fat. But if you're looking for a toned body, this is the way to get it!

If you've ever considered lifting weights as a female, go for it! Don't worry about the misconceptions that come with it and dive right in!

Anyone who was born and raised in New Jersey (or anywhere really) knows of Bruce Springsteen, whether or not they like him is a whole other situation. I hope that his hundreds of classic rock songs and famous high energy performances, even in his sixties he can put on better concerts than people half his age, are at least recognizable to people of all ages. Love him or hate him (I identify with the former) you have to admit that some of his songs and interviews have inspirational quotes and lyrics.
