This should come as a good sign to voters under the age of 35: We hate Trump. He polls in fourth place for our age group, which means that if we were to decide the future of the nation, Trump wouldn’t even be on our radar. But there’s more to this discussion than just that fact. This poll among young voters tells us more about the future—about our desired future.
If just the future of our nation were to vote today, we would elect Hillary Clinton, but we would also be throwing out the two-party system. The polls that were released this week show that we would give far further consideration to both the Libertarian and Green Party candidates. We’re fed up with the decisions that are made in Washington, and in fact, 65% of all voters don’t feel that either the Democratic or Republican party represents them.
Libertarian Candidate Gary Johnson recently released this video, speaking to the millennial population.
In it Governor Johnson says, “By not standing up and voting out Two-Party Washington years ago, people my age have made a mess of things for people your age. We may never agree on all the small things, but let’s agree on the big thing. Both parties have blown it. Since two-party Washington has stopped representing us, let’s stop electing them.”
He ends by saying, “It’s not too late. We can still have our best America yet. You in?”
So here’s what I think millennial voters should know: If you support Clinton and agree with her, please vote for her. If you feel like Trump represents our country and would be a good Commander in Chief, go ahead and vote for him. And, if you don’t feel like either party represents you, vote for a candidate you believe in.
This poll is the most promising poll I’ve seen recently, not just because Clinton blows Trump out of the water, but because it shows that millennials really are ready to change things in Washington. A third-party candidate will probably not win this election, but it’s important to vote your conscience because our votes speak for us and show where we’d like to see the future of our country go.
