For those who do not have political news updates on their smartphones, Indiana Governor Mike Pence has just been announced as Donald Trump's running Vice President in the 2016 Presidential Election.
Trump publicly introduced his first-choice decision in New York City on July 16th where he spoke for 28 minutes about his campaign and then "getting back to Mike Pence" towards the end of his passionate speech. Pence shortly joined to accept the decision and gave a conventional Vice President acceptance speech. On stage, Trump mentioned his reasons for his decision after speaking about "crooked Hillary". The choice appeared as a surprise to the world because both are on opposing ends on some aspects.
Here are some fast facts about the running VP:
1. Elected as Indiana's 50th Governor in 2012
Pence seeked election after spending his political career in Congress and the House of Representatives.
2. Lifelong Hoosier
Let's see how he would adjust to life in the White House come January if Trump wins the presidency. His Hoosier homecoming to Indiana was much looked forward too after his trip to New York.
3. Married for 31 years
Mike and Karen Pence were married in 1985 and have been in love ever since. It is an interesting case to see that Karen, a school-teacher for 25 years, is married to someone who opposed "No Child Left Behind" Act.
4. American Dad
Pence is the father to three adult children: Audrey (the social liberal), Michael (the Marine), and Charlotte (the filmmaker). Like Trump, Pence is a family guy and both families have welcomed each other with open arms.
5. Christian, Conservative, & Republican (in that order)
Although he is focusing on the political side of life at the moment, he is open about his religious beliefs. If you consider shifting his beliefs several times to be open.
6. Yin to the Yang
Pence is the necessary positive force that has been missing from Trump's campaign. The media was surprised to hear about Trump's decision. Hopefully they will balance each other out come November.
7. Currently Running for Re-Election
Hmm..how can he run for both Governor and Vice President at the same time? Pence is in a tight race for another term as the Governor of Indiana against Democrat John Gregg.
