In today's world, there are so many different ways to pierce your body it's crazy. You can pretty much piercing anything and everything. It used to be a big deal if you had your lobes pierced and an even bigger deal if you had two piercings in each lobe, but now there are a lot more options. One of the most popular piercings to get is called a daith. Some believe it helps prevent migraines and headaches and I am proud to say I am a believer.
Just a little background on me, I was diagnosed with basilar migraine disorder, which means an artery in my head does not allow blood to flow freely and therefore causes a migraine. I would get small headaches that slowly built up to killer migraines. I had days where I wouldn't get out of bed they were so bad. After I got my official diagnosis I was given a medication meant to prevent the migraines. The only thing I can say is that medicine is not always the answer.
I've always been one to experiment with piercings and I wasn't afraid to sit down and let someone poke me with a needle. After doing some research I decided to get my daith pierced and I figured if it didn't help the constant pain in my head at least I would have a cute new piercing. I went to a shop with licensed professionals and they showed me a lot of jewelry options. I'm not going to lie, when the piercer actually stuck that needle in my ear it hurt like hell. My experience went smoothly though and I have since then went back for more piercings.
While the daith piercing initially made my ear tender and sore, I immediately noticed a difference in my headaches and migraines. At first, I would get the occasional annoying headache here or there but now I can say I am migraine free. I don't have to hole myself up in a dark room or use my emergency migraine stopping pills. To this day I still have not experienced a crippling migraine. Even now when I feel a headache starting to come on I just wiggle the jewelry a little and I get instant relief.
While getting this piercing is not a proven solution to migraines and headaches, many people have had positive outcomes. My advice would be to do your research. Only you know how bad your pain is and if you are anything like me and it's bad pain, you will do anything to get rid of it. Research the piercing itself and piercing shops in your local area to make the best decision for you. If you get your daith pierced and it helps, great, but if it doesn't prove to be effective at least you will have a cool piercing to show off.
