5 Reasons Why Fall In The Midwest Is The Best

Every season is great. I mean, the brutally cold winters get old after the second day walking to class in seven below zero temperatures, but the snow is pretty... Spring is wonderful, aside from all the rain. Summer is just fun, it's hot enough to swim and tan, but when there's not heat advisories or your skin is melting off, it's not so great anymore. But, above all, nothing is more gorgeous than autumn in the Midwest. It's one of the greatest times of year for various reasons, but here are five that everyone can share their mutual love for.

1. FOOTBALL - Whether it's under the Friday night lights or waking up at the crack of dawn to tailgate on Saturdays, or even Sunday and Monday on your couch screaming at the television for a few hours, all in all football is prime focus of the fall. (Also, it's volleyball season and that is the greatest time of year or of ever, so that's another reason.)

1 1/2. TAILGATES - Slightly goes along with football, but nothing is better than tailgating. Growing up in a college town, my family, along with all of my friends' families would wake up bright and early to drive over to Purdue to start the party around 7 a.m. every Saturday morning. Tailgating is the bomb, even if the football isn't that great (cough cough, losing records) the social gathering and team spirit still spreads throughout the parking lots.

2. LEAVES - Undeniably driving through Indiana in the month of October is an INCREDIBLE view. The trees are in their prime. Leaves varying in every color under the sun. As Great-Grandma BB always says, "Just look at those gorgeous trees, awww."

3. TEMPERATURES - Fall temperatures between the months of Sept. to Nov. basically covers every seasonal option in just three months. These months it can be anywhere between 80 degrees to 10 degrees. But the perfect fall day is when it's around 55, and all the clothing that is necessary is jeans (leggings) and a sweatshirt. #perftemps amiright?

4. BONFIRES - The "thing to do" in the fall is definitely have a bonfire; if it isn't, everyone thought it was in my town, at least. Most weekends driving through any midwest town you are bound to stumble upon the aroma of burning wood. Such a causal social setting with very natural necessities. #simplefun

5. FOOD - Fall food items are BOMB. First of all Thanksgiving is during the fall, and that is enough said at that. I have a firm stance as to why Thanksgiving is the absolute best holiday (other than my birthday). 1. It's one of the only holidays that gifts are not given nor received. 2. It is socially acceptable to devour as much food all day long. 3. It's the holiday before Christmas, so there is still a lot to look forward to and in only a month's time. 4. Football is on all day, basically. So, yeah, essentially, the list could just be made up of the sole reason FALL is the best season in the midwest, but since there is more days during these months than just Thanksgiving, it is only appropriate to list the fantastic reasons.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
