On the 32nd anniversary of Mexico City’s big earthquake of 8.0, tragedy struck again.
It was 11:14 a.m. on September 19 when an earthquake of a magnitude of 7.1 shook Mexico City, Puebla, Morelos and other surrounding states. As a result, many buildings fell, leaving more than 200 dead people. The lives lost during this horrible natural disaster is something that will never be forgotten and will always be a reminder of how fragile life can be.
On the other hand, I think it is important to take the positive inside the negative, even if the negative is way too big. After going through social media I did not only read stories about the damages and deaths. I also read about the big efforts that Mexican civilians and authorities are doing to help those who are still under the rabbles and those who ended up in a very vulnerable state.
I watched videos of civilians in the damaged streets giving away food, water, and other basic supplies to help those in need. Other people decided to help in the rescuing process and tried to do their best to find people still missing or who were under the fallen buildings. I also watched a video of a group of people rescuing a dog, which brought me to tears.
All these actions that came after the earthquake reminded me how kindhearted and compassionate people can be, especially my Mexican people.
To see all my country united and helping for a common cause is one of the best feelings I’ve ever felt, especially now more than ever when it seems that there are not many good people left in this twisted world. It is during times like these, that people can see that there is more good than evil humans on this planet.
However, Mexicans aren’t the only ones that are showing solidarity and love after this fatal earthquake. People from all over the world are also spreading their condolences and motivating words to make us Mexicans feel that we are not alone.
I think it is impressive how after a big tragedy happens, people from all over the world unite and spreads their love. I think sometimes these tragic events are meant to happen to soften our hearts a little and to say –"Hey, it is time to spread some love."
At the end of the day, it does not matter what nationality you are or what language you speak. We are all humans who want this world to be a better place. Yes, there might be some people that don’t share the same goal but the good will always defeat the bad and this earthquake and many other natural disasters that keep happening are a proof of this.
With this being said I would like to thank everyone who is taking the time to help the victims and people affected or even spread cheerful words.
But most of all, thank you Mexicans, for making me even prouder than I already was. You reminded me why I love my country and my people. You also have shown me that everything is better if we just stick together. For this and for many other reasons:
Viva México!
