Year four of my Metrocon Massive shooting experience has just come to a close, and as I'm sitting in the Skylounge at Tampa International, I'm going to share some shots from this year's special event, along with notes and thoughts on the overall shooting.

Firstly, major shoutout to the Sigma ART 20mm f/1.4 lens. This thing is a low light beast, and I highly recommend it. I fine tuned mine, and it is tack sharp even at 1.4 which is impressive. Also, if you're a photographer - get yourself a Spyder hand holster and you'll thank me later.

Now, this event is a blast and a real challenge to shoot because I am battling many things at the same time - low light, intense contrast due to strobes, fast movements, and improv moments to catch.

I shot this set generally around ISO 1000 which is about as high as I like to go even with my full frame D750. The nice thing about that camera is I can underexpose shots in order to freeze motion, and generally, I can still pull the blacks and shadows up in a post to retain detail.

The other nice thing about using such a wide lens is the ability to shoot slower shutter speeds due to minimize camera shake, so shooting with 20mm was nice. Not to mention the fact that I can open up to f/1.4 to give myself even more flexibility due to the low light. Now, the trade-off with shooting wide at 1.4 is the small zone you have to focus in (thanks autofocus!)

As you'll see, you can also achieve a pretty cool distortion with these wide lenses, though you need to make sure to only use it intentionally, as it can easily be overdone. (especially in concert work)

Side note: Being able to shoot DJ S3RL's last world tour was dope.

There's always great props to shoot at massive, and this pixel whip was one of my favorites.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
