During The #MeToo Movement, Don't Forget The Children

We need to bring some awareness to the sexual harassment and abuse of a vulnerable population in Hollywood.

During The #MeToo Movement, Don't Forget The Children

Since 2017, the Me Too movement has taken Hollywood by storm. Many of Hollywood's biggest stars have come out with their own stories of their experience with sexual harassment; the perpetrators being some of the biggest names in the industry. It's disappointing learning that a lot of these men whose movies I admired for ages were (or currently still are) the ones responsible.

But what about the children? What about the former child stars who were taken advantage of? The current ones who are likely suffering from sexual abuse but remain silent out of fear?

What inspired me to write this article was the recent dismissal of Dan Schneider from Nickelodeon. If you're like me, you pretty much grew up on him. In the 90s and 2000s, he was a household name and kind of a big deal since he was responsible for masterpieces like The Amanda Show, All That, Drake and Josh, and Zoey 101. Even iCarly, as strange as it was, was a smash hit, and Victorious was great fun, as well.

I first learned about his dismissal not too long ago and saw similar reaction tweets stating that he actually sexually abused his young starlets behind the scenes. There was a huge Twitter thread that detailed his obvious foot fetish, footage of him with some of his prodigies in questionable poses, and even a theory that Amanda Bynes had her public mental breakdown due to his abuse. Unfortunately, the thread creator has since made their account private, but take a look at this tweet and make of it what you will.

Then there's John Kricfalusi, the guy behind the most screwed-up and most beloved show of our generation, Ren and Stimpy. There is an entire Buzzfeed article detailing the absolutely disgusting actions he committed against then-aspiring animators Robyn Byrd and Katie Rice [WARNING: this article is NSFW].

Is my childhood tarnished from learning that Kricfalusi is an actual pedophile? Yes. Is the image I had of him tarnished? Also a big fat yes – it's been ruined forever.

And do not even get me started on R. Kelly. I don't care how memorable the songs "I Believe I Can Fly" and "Ignition (Remix)" both are, he is an awful human being who preys on underage girls and somehow always gets away with it. It's just hard to imagine why.

So what's the point of me writing this article, you ask? To bring some awareness to the sexual harassment and abuse of a vulnerable population in Hollywood.

Some may not even know about the Kricfalusi fiasco yet, and I can't blame them because there wasn't too much coverage on it. I could go on about several others accused of abuse against children, but I'm going to stop here. We believe the women who come forward...now I hope we can do the same for the kids.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
