Some people seem to be under the misconception that mental health problems can magically be thought away. Like somehow you can just tell your brain, "Hey, you, stop being a jerk and stop worrying over every little thing." Or even better yet, "Hey, stop making me feel like my life is absolutely pointless and I'm going to die alone."
If fixing mental health issues were that easy, don't you think I would have stopped having them about 10 years ago? Don't you think there wouldn't be any health problems in the world because people would immediately make themselves get over it? Most likely.
Mental health is not that easy. You can't just tell your brain to change how it is wired. Thinking that it's possible to do so is incredibly condescending and hurtful to people that have mental health problems. It would be like telling someone with a broken leg to fix it immediately with no outside help. That's not possible, is it?
There is no on/off switch for mental health. It is a chronic problem with no easy solution. No quick fix. There are different methods that may help, like therapy or medication, but that's not exactly a straight path. It takes work and weeks, if not months, of figuring out the best method for each individual.
If you do not understand, if you don't have any experience, you have no right telling people how to handle their health problems. Having mental health issues, like depression or anxiety, is like having any other disease or health problem. Don't look down on it just because you don't understand it.
