Often physical health is something that is talked about, and mental health can be overlooked. Mental health awareness is something that is starting to be talked about more and more, which is more than great, it’s needed.
In colleges across the country especially mental health awareness is getting a serious reboot.
One in four young adults, ages 18 to 24 will develop a mental illness.
Anxiety is the top concern in mental health with among 41.6 percent of college students suffering from it. It is a real problem, not just something that you get over.
Depression is the second leading mental health issue with 36.4 percent of college students suffering from the disorder.
As a college student, and for anyone who has ever been a college student, it is completely understandable why people develop these health issues.
College students now more than ever face challenges, pressure, and stress that cause them to feel overwhelmed. Many students often face feeling homesick if it is there first time away from their family for an extended amount of time.
In college you have the opportunity to branch out and make new friends. However, students may also start to feel very alone and feel like they have no one to turn too.
College students should always be aware that they have so many outlet options. College campuses all over the country have on campus facilities that students can go to if you ever do feel alone, or too stressed out.
If you ever feel anxiety, too overwhelmed, or like you can’t shake the feeling like everything is crap. Talk to someone, tell someone.
If someone reaches out to you or tells you any of these things, be there for them or tell someone who can help them.
Mental health issues are real and should not go unnoticed
