No matter how we look at it our health is the one of the most fundamental aspects of our well-being. We realize when we are falling ill and needing to take a day off of work or school, we realize that we must quarantine ourselves from preventing others from getting sick as well. However, there are other aspects of our health that we need to understand and we must learn how to treat it in our own respective ways.
In recent years mental health has made its way to the top of the conversation list, in fact, we are beginning to talk more about it to reduce the stigma that was placed on it years before. And while it is great that we are finally we having these conversations about our mental health, as individuals we need to learn how to take care of it on our own from time to time. How we can we take care of our mental health?
* Take a mental health day - this is important, because there are days where you are going to need just some time where you don't do anything at all. Grab the remote, your pets ( if you have some), a cozy blanket, and snacks. Sometimes if you are feeling it, invite a friend over to just have the day together.
* Breathe- I cannot stress this enough, but it is vital that you take a step back and take a deep breath. It might be a difficult situation that you are currently in, but panicking will not make it easier.
* Journal- This has been proven to be fully effective for those who are having a hard time understanding why they are feeling what they are feeling. Writing in a journal everyday for fifteen to thirty minutes can help you organize your thoughts, as well as figuring out your emotions.
* Social Cleanse- We live in an age where there are dozens of social media platforms, and some of the accounts on social media can cause anxiety and depression to worsen. In order to release some of the toxicity that lies in the depths of social media, it is best to take a moment and see if those who you follow are improving or damaging your health.
* Burrito Wrap - For those who are not familiar with this, the burrito wrap is where you take a weighted blanket (or anything heavy) and wrap yourself in the form of a burrito. This is known as "deep pressure", it is a sensory calming method that many use to help heal the anxiety that rushes through the body (I partake in this from time to time).
