Mental health, it's something that often gets pushed under the rug and forgotten about. It's a topic that many people don't want to talk about or don't know how to talk about. But it is a very real thing that affects more people than you may realize. And at times, mental health can be crippling and all-consuming.
With that in mind, bring school and life into this situation. How are you expected to get your homework done or study for a test when your brain just won't shut off all the bad thoughts that keep running through your head? The combination of mental health and getting school work done is like water and oil trying to mix together.
It is so frustrating to try and focus on the homework that is supposed to be due in the next hour and you can't fathom getting started. It's not like you don't want to get the homework done so you can stop worrying but you mentally cannot comprehend what is going on.
So when you get that big test back that you thought you spent hours working on and see that you did poorly, what are you supposed to do? Tell your teacher that you were not able to properly prepare because your mind was going a million miles a minute because you have a mental health issue? Ha, they would just give you a sad look and tell you sorry.
But you don't want their pity, much less anyone else's pity. You want that person to truly understand what your situation is and how to go about making it better for you. The teacher may see you as a complaining student that just didn't decide to start studying until the night before.
Your grades reflect those weeks that you would rather forget about than bring them back up when you get handed back that test or assignment. Those memories of struggling and frustrating over putting the time into the work come bubbling back up to haunt you.
There are no words that can describe the feeling of struggling with mental health while in school. It is a debilitating thing that a lot of other people don't understand unless they have been through it themselves.
Mental health can wreck your grades.
