Meet up and coming Chicago-based artist, Little Crown. A mix of Southern charm and Midwestern vibes, this young soul can WAIL on a ukulele with the voice of an angel.

What's your story, how did you end up here in Chicago?

"I feel like the story of how I ended up in Chicago is kind of a TLDR sort of thing. Long story short; I was having a terrible time in my hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana (which is mostly what the song 318 is about), and came to Chicago for 4 days and ended up staying; I fell in love with this city almost immediately. I was 18 when I came here with nothing but a suitcase, a backpack and one of those pillows that turn in to a blanket- now I’ve got this life I love and enjoy. Looking back on where I started and where I am only two and a half years later is all the motivation I need to keep making some kind of magic happen."

In one to two sentences, what would you say Little Crown is?

"Little Crown is where I put bitter feelings- the things I think or feel, but don’t quite understand. Little Crown is where I’ve learned how to relate to myself. The goal I guess is to share that notion with anyone who’s willing to listen."

How did you come up with the name Little Crown?

“There should be a place where only the things you want to happen, happen”. Where The Wild Things Are was/is my favorite book as a kiddo. When I was in the midst of creating this project, I kept drawing Max’s little crown in the corners of my notebook and one day I was like “oh, Little Crown..that’s me!”

What instruments do you play?

"Currently, Ukulele. I played French Horn and Trumpet through middle and high school and maybe a year or so after I graduated. My French Horn is still in my closet, maybe I’ll have to bust it out for new Little Crown stuff."

What have you done so far with this solo project?

"I’ve played a handful of shows as Little Crown since January of this year. The most exciting thing Little Crown has done so far was the Fall Split with Rare Candy and a few shows I played before I even had music out!"

What are your goals for the future?

"Future goals? I would like to eat breakfast every day. Little Crown goals? I’d like to release a solo EP, maybe Little Crown can go on an Little Tour?"

How would you describe your sound?

"Happy songs for sad people. Sad songs for happy people. Take your pick."

Are there other local artists you want to collab with in the future?

"Tons! More immediately I need to collaborate with Jaclyn FUCKING Heuser so our #grlpwr can take over. Maybe not collab, but I would to rock a gig with bristletounge and Stratford (again)."

Where is your favorite place to play a show?

"I played at Reggie’s once last year- that was pretty sweet. Some of the best sets I’ve played have been at house shows, though. Those are a healthy amount of intimate and fun- it’s easier to allow yourself to get vulnerable for 20-30 minutes in that kind of environment. 10. Do you have an album/ep coming up? Shooting for some new stuff in February-ish ;) "

What is your advice to up and coming musicians?

" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbrbUfYSt0E & I mean that"

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
