Cara Martinez

My name is Cara Martinez and I am a writer and photographer for the Odyssey in the Arizona State group.

I have been an active member of the Odyssey since November 2018. I am currently a sophomore in the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

I am originally from Manhattan Beach, CA and I came to ASU for the prestigious Walter Cronkite school. I am studying Public Relations with goals of working in a pr firm. I love writing, traveling and going to concerts. The topics that I mainly focus on are mental health, life realizations, traveling and relationships.

The Odyssey is a great outlet for me to showcase my thoughts and opinions on different topics and experiences I have gone through. I am in a sorority called Alpha Omicron Pi and I love spending my time going on outings with my sisters.

Some of my interests are cooking, politics and going to the gym. Writing for the Odyssey has made a positive impact on my self-esteem and mental health.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines.
