Meet ASU Odyssey: Mitchell Zimmermann

Hey there! My name is Mitchell Zimmermann and I am the Editor in Chief of ASU Odyssey. I joined Odyssey Online in 2018 as a reporter. In January, I was promoted to be EIC, so I've been in this role for about 7 months now!

I am a broadcast journalism major, looking to minor in political science at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Now in my sophomore year, I have been editing articles for one of the fastest-growing communities in Odyssey. Not only am I involved with this publication, I also am the Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing for the Walter Cronkite College Council. I'm basically the social media guru for the organization!

I'm originally from Huntington Beach, California, but I've lived in Surprise, Arizona for almost my entire life. I like to say that I'm half Californian and half Arizonan because I would always spend my summers in H.B. all the way up until my senior year in high school. A fun fact about me is I have the same birthday as Hoda Kotb AND Shawn Mendes! One of my favorite news anchors and one of my favorite artists, I got really lucky with my birthday date. I am a Leo, so I'm super passionate in everything that I do and I am dramatic sometimes, well, a little more than sometimes. Also, I'm a HUGE Green Bay Packers fan, I have the cheese head to prove it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
