In today's culture, women are constantly raped, abused, catcalled, touched, etc.
STOP IT.
This issue is vital to the feminist movement today. Many women carry pepper spray, take self-defense classes, carry a knife, and even stay on the lookout by constantly looking around. Personally, I carry my key in between my fingers to jab at eyes. I even get nervous around older men I don't know in my local gas stations.
I've been whistled at. Perverts have attempted to talk me up three different times, some saying VERY suggestive comments. A guy has grabbed my shoulders without my permission. Multiple dudes decided "no" means "maybe if I ask again."
And these are only minor cases. Many women my age today have experienced MUCH MORE than what I have. Guys have reached up their dress, raped, been violent, grabbed, forced, bothered, been told to "suck it up," degraded, etc.
Many males seem to believe females owe them sex based off of the fact we have capable parts.
NEWSFLASH! I do not owe you sex. You owe me respect. I am a human being with passions, dislikes, family, loved ones, desires, achievements, talents, personality, and beauty.
If any of this makes you uncomfortable then good. The truth can be uncomfortable, but the truth will also set you free. The truth will set you free from guilt and shame that has no right to be within you for the actions and words of SOMEONE ELSE. The truth is women are treated like this every single day.
This hashtag isn't about wanting to be pitied or have attention. This hashtag is about owning up to our stories and making it known that we can overcome these situations. This hashtag is about making our stories known to stop these indecent acts. This hashtag is for everyone, women and men, who are abused: to empower them. This hashtag brings to the forefront what happens to all women at least once in their life.
Also, if you are uncomfortable with telling your story, just know you aren't obligated to. You can find power, strength, and courage from within you. Don't let someone put guilt and shame into you. YOU are a beautiful human being, and no one can change that.
