For more than a decade now, The Bachelor franchise has been dominating reality tv and winning over the hearts of people all over the world. This season is no different as people all over the world have tuned in to hopes of watching Matt James find love.
Now personally, I am not an avid fan of The Bachelor franchise. I used to watch the show with my family; but, eventually they stopped watching it so I did too. For me, the days of Ali Fedotowsky and Emily Maynard will always be peak. It wasn't until right before I started college during Hannah Brown's season that I started watching it again. Truthfully, if it weren't for how popular it is amongst college aged students I probably wouldn't be watching the show now.
As someone who once watched the show and is only recently watching it again, I just feel that the show isn't what it once was. I understand the importance of drama for views; but, there comes a point where you begin to question the producer's intentions. Especially on seasons like Peter Weber's, who will likely go down in history as the most disliked bachelor, where it felt like he was constantly rewarding bad behavior.
I would probably still feel this way about the franchise if it weren't for Matt James. Prior to his season starting, I knew nothing about Matt James except for the fact that he is best friends with Tyler Cameron. With that aside, Matt James has exceeded my expectations as the bachelor.
Over the past few weeks, we have gotten to see Matt embrace his role as the bachelor and try to find love among the women. As viewers, we have been able to learn parts of his story and learn more about who he is as a person. We've seen his humor shine and most importantly him show compassion when it most mattered.
For me, what really sold me on Matt James this season was how he handed the ladies actions this past week. Throughout the last couple of episodes, we have seen increasing tensions amongst the girls. At first, it started with Victoria and then we saw the addition of several new women which only added to the drama. In the end, it turned into a nasty battle of "the OGs vs the newbies".
Ultimately, the actions of some of the women spiraled out of control which forced Matt to take action. Personally, I think the way Matt handled the situation shows a lot about his character. He could've ignored the allegations against the women or favored certain women over others; but, he didn't do that. Matt stuck to his morals and let those who acted in a negative way go home without a second thought. This stood out to me simply because in the past we have seen the bachelor's reward bad behavior by giving them more one-on-one time or simply keeping them on the show. Of course, Matt could have done this too in order to please producers or to keep views up; but, he didn't.
Honestly, after watching this last weeks episode, I am very excited to see where this season goes. I am sure there will be plenty of more drama to come; but, I have no doubt in my mind that Matt will handle it in a proper fashion. Overall, I can't wait to see where this season goes and most importantly how it shapes future seasons.
