To The People Who Think 'Mass Shootings Are A Punishment From God'

Is this the God you worship?

To The People Who Think 'Mass Shootings Are A Punishment From God'

If you're reading this, it's likely there's recently been a mass shooting.

It's likely the government still hasn't figured out how to prevent this from happening again.

It's likely, and unfortunate, that we are still having to talk about this.

Every time there's a mass shooting, the country ends up in an endless debate of why we let this happen and how to fix it. It's the endless argument of whether the guns or the people are the problem, and are what make this a reoccurring tragedy in our country.

Every time this happens, there are some who stray from the traditional sides of this debate and create their own reasoning.

One thing I've seen so much of is this: It's God's will.

One thing I can tell you it's definitely not: God's will.

So many people online say this happened because God let it, because we as humans have done wrong and strayed from the path of righteousness or given into evil desires and this mass shooting is punishment.

People seriously believe that we deserved the mass shooting because God is upset with our choices and lifestyles, be it related to race, religion, abortion, LGBT+ life, or a plethora of other things.

A great example of this is a Twitter thread in regards to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, which basically said, "Ever since the U.S. legalized abortion, God is getting back at us for killing unborn babies by letting people kill children who were granted life. We reap what we sow."

Here's a completely serious question in response to that: What god do you worship that would allow such a thing?

God is portrayed as loving, merciful and accepting. He is looked to for strength, guidance and comfort. Many people have different views on how God is involved in our creation and every day lives, but most can agree that no loving, merciful and accepting god would force tragedy onto the world as punishment.

The people who try to justify mass shootings by saying it's God punishment for humanity, are some of the biggest hypocrites. You cannot spend every day preaching about how wonderful your God is and how He spreads love and peace, then turn around in the face of tragedy and say He is punishing the world and it's Him who is allowing such destruction in our world.

If God is caring and loving, it is not Him who is letting these events happen. It doesn't matter what you believe to be the cause of these events, these events keep happening because there is no change in this country. We continue to let these shootings happen, and innocent people die because we do not make any changes.

God is not making and allowing people to terrorize our country, it's our own fault for not taking the action we need.

It's seems like no matter where you go nowadays, you're at risk for being caught in the middle of a mass shooting -- school, concerts, movies, even church.

If we want to end this risk, we need to figure out what's making this keep happening; because I know for a fact it's not God.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
