Terps basketball is off to their best start in program history at 15-1 with about a month and a half left to go in the regular season. The Terps are 4-0 so far to start the season with their next three opponents coming with one game away from Xfinity center, then their next two come at home. Let’s take a look at their next three opponents.
January 12th - at Michigan
Last season, Michigan came to College Park for Maryland Senior Day, where the Terps defeated the Wolverines 66-56. This season the Wolverines come in at 12-4 and 2-1 in the Big Ten, sitting at sixth place currently in the Big Ten. Chris Levert is their leading scorer who averages 17.6 points a game. Michigan’s one threat is that they are tremendous three point shooters. If Maryland can keep them honest from behind the arc, I see no problem with them taking this game
January 16th - Home vs. Ohio State
The Terps suffered an embarrassing loss last year to Ohio State, losing 56-80. However, the Buckeyes travel to Maryland this year, currently 11-6 and 3-1 in the Big Ten, currently tied for fourth place. They will be looking to beat Maryland for the second straight year, while the Terps will be looking for revenge. The Bucks highest scorer is Marc Loving, who averages 14.7 points a game and has 51 more points than anyone else on the team. The Terps scoring ability should give them the edge in this one, because of Ohio State’s D’Angelo Russell departing for the draft and the Buckeyes haven’t been able to replace that scoring ability.
January 19th - Home vs. Northwestern
The Terps absolutely routed the Wildcats this year, 72-59 behind Rasheed Sulaimon going a perfect shooting percentage from the field and solid defense and rebounding from senior Jake Layman. Now the Wildcats come to College Park for a chance to even the score; last time they came to Maryland, Dez Wells stunned all of Northwestern with a last second tip-in. If the Terps are still undefeated in the Big Ten at this point, they will be 18-1 with a victory over the Wildcats and a perfect 7-0 in the Big Ten.
