Before Maroon 5 ever took the stage for the Super Bowl's halftime show, they were doomed to drown in criticism. It is well-known they weren't the first artist asked, due to a list of singers and bands declining in union with Colin Kaepernick. But this article isn't about the fact the band performed, regardless of many of their industry competition's decisions; it's about the response the band got to the actual performance, not just the notion that they would play even though all their "friends" said no.
On Twitter, people expressed their feelings on the halftime show, saying:
@maroon5 put on the worst halftime show I’ve ever seen on a Super Bowl. Holy crap, that was so BORING.… https://t.co/RW7tINkeIE— Diogo Reis (@Diogo Reis) 1549245952.0

Overall, the consensus was pretty much that it was boring - some even going as far as to say it was the worst halftime show. Ever.
But, honestly? I'd have to disagree. It was simple, yes, but that kind of simplicity is exactly what we need in a world overwhelmed by flashy social media posts and everyone screaming their opinions at each other.
Maroon 5's halftime performance was about the music, not the display. They played their top hits from over the years, hits that retained the number one spot for weeks at a time when released. They focused on love and acceptance, for everyone. They performed a classic, traditional show that some may call "boring," but I truly believe was a well-crafted reprieve from the sometimes-obnoxious, in-your-face, social-media-esque performances that people wanted. In today's world, simplicity is not appreciated enough, but sometimes it is exactly what we need to escape the society social media has created for us.
So maybe it wasn't boring. Maybe it was just simple. And it was definitely exactly what we needed.
