It seems like every time there is a mass shooting, there is a wave of activism. Americans push their local, state and federal governments to do something about mass shootings.
But every time, it seems as though the wave only lasts until the end of the week and then it is forgotten.
However, this time is different.
This past Saturday, because of the Parkland shooting, people all over the country organized the March for Our Lives.
Millions of Americans took part in the marches. In Washington D.C., there were more people participating in the marches than at Donald Trump's inauguration.
The Parkland kids' cause is noble, but there are always going to be critics.
In this case, it's the NRA and the fringe-right conservatives.
The kids have been labeled as "crisis actors" and paid by liberal billionaires like George Soros.
Some people have resorted to photoshopping the kids in order to disparage their fight.
In one image, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student and #NeverAgain leader Emma Gonzalez ripped up a poster of a target. But recently a photoshopped image of Gonzalez ripping up the United States Constitution made its rounds on Facebook.
This spread of fake and disparaging images means mainly one thing: the NRA and the fringe-right are scared.
Attacking teenagers who saw 17 of their classmates means they are scared.
The fear is not limited to just the fringe right. It has now expanded to Fox News.
Pundits from Tucker Carlson to Tomi Lahren are spinning this activism into fear for the Fox viewers.
They are trying to spin this into a movement to repeal the second amendment.
No activist from Parkland has said they want to repeal the second amendment.
Because of these activists, the state of Florida's state legislature passed its strictest gun-control legislation yet
The age restriction on the purchase of all firearms was raised. The purchase and possession of bump stocks in now illegal. And now there is a three-day waiting period to buy any gun, including rifles or shotguns.
The Parkland kids are not just heading a movement - they're heading a revolution.
One of the most important parts of their rhetoric is getting people to vote.
And during the marches this past weekend, thousands were signed up to vote for this year's elections in November.
In any democracy, the most powerful way to exercise your political power as a citizen is to vote.
If the 2018 midterms were today, then the Democratic party would win in a landslide.
Maybe then some substantive gun control will be taken federally.
